Official Third ID Painting Unveiled

Several Third Infantry Division soldiers and veterans were honored in a very special way. An official Third ID painting by artist James Dietz was unveiled this weekend. The artwork was inspired by soldiers who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The painting was commissioned last spring.

Dietz says he wanted to capture the scenes of Third Infantry soldiers in Iraq and commemorate their service in the war.

"Fifty, 100 years from now, people will see that oil painting and see it as something from a different time, just as Civil War paintings are now," said the artist.

The oil painting will be displayed at the Fort Stewart Museum on post. Prints of the artwork are also on sale. Proceeds will go to the museum.
