Power Company Prepares for Storm

Hurricane Frances is the latest storm that could hit somewhere on the Southeast coastline, and emergency workers in Savannah say they're ready.

Savannah Electric sent dozens of employees and contractors to Florida and South Carolina to help clean up damage from Hurricane Charley and Tropical Storm Gaston. They returned to Savannah last week, but more than 60 tree and power-line contractors are still deployed.

"If there are folks with lights out, we want them to stay working and get lights back where they are needed," said the company's John Kraft. "We don't need them right away, but we'll get them back if it looks like storm trouble here."

Savannah Electric says the Coastal Empire is the number one priority for these contractors.
