Chatham Area Transit to launch real-time tracker system

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Chatham Area Transit is testing some new technology to help better serve its customers.

On Tuesday, they unveiled the Intelligent Transportation System. The system will allow CAT to monitor service in real time through voice and video.

The system is in the testing phase and is scheduled to be rolled out in September. It will also help passengers better track the buses.

"It would be accessible to your smart phone - you have the ability to hold up your phone and scan around for when the next bus is coming. If you don't have a smart phone you can punch the number in on the bus stop and it will send you a text when the net bus is coming," said Chadwick Reese, executive director at Chatham Area Transit.

The $2 million project is the first of its caliber in the nation.
