Lowcountry man charged with manufacturing methamphetamine

Beaufort Sheriff's Office Drug Investigators have arrested Bernie Smithson Graves, 36, of Lady's Island, on drug charges in relation to arrests that took place on May 17.

The drug investigation began at a residence on Fox Island Lane in Okatie. While investigating, authorities learned that Graves participated in the manufacturing of methamphetamine not only at the residence on Fox Island Lane but at a bus that he had parked near a residence on Beasley Place in Okatie.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the bus and it was executed shortly after the first search warrant. Authorities located several of the same materials used to make methamphetamine. The items include bases, acids, flammables and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Graves turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He has been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and disposal of methamphetamine waste.

According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing and additional subject may be charged.
