Oklahoma tornado: How to help

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Relief organizations say monetary donations -- not clothing, blankets are food -- are needed right now to help victims of the Oklahoma tornado.

"What you see on television does not do it justice," Red Cross volunteer Tina Hardy said  before shipping out from Savannah to Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon. "When you're actually there, you're standing there looking at that devastation and looking at the people that have been affected by something this catastrophic, it really is heartbreaking. And the American people are so generous and so kind. They always want to do something to reach out to help. And the best way to do that is to make a contribution to the American Red Cross."

Several major charities are taking $10 donations via cell phone. The Salvation Army is taking donations by texting "storm" to 80888. To give to Samaritan's purse, text "SP" to the same number. To give to the Red Cross, text "Redcross" to 90999.
