PIERCE CO., GA (WTOC) -

City officials in Pierce County said a trailer park has been evacuated due to a gas leak.

The Patterson Trailer Park has been evacuated after a Bell South sub-contractor's backhoe apparently struck a gas line while digging. Officials said the leak is under control at this moment, and crews are working the leak. Officials said it is the only trailer park in Patterson.

They have re-routed traffic on Highway 84 through Patterson, and have a detour set up at Highway 32 and 84 to stop the traffic.

The Georgia Dept. of Transportation has set an emergency detour in place on U.S. 84/S.R. 38 from the city of Blackshear to the town of Screven.

The detour will be in effect until the gas line is fixed:

U.S. 84/S.R. 38 starts in Blackshear
S.R. 15
S.R. 203
U.S. 84/S.R. 38 ends in Jesup

According to Pierce County Emergency Management Director Leonard Roberts, the road will remained closed until around 10 a.m. Thursday.
