SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Paula Deen announced Thursday that she has launched a foundation that helps and provides support to women and families in need.

The Bag Lady Foundation will work to help people, communities and like-minded organizations that will then empower those challenged by poverty, according to a news release.

The Bag Lady Foundation is named after one the first businesses Deen started. The Bag Lady was Deen's catering and delivery business that Deen and her sons Jamie and Bobby grew out of her kitchen.

The foundation is still in the planning stages and will be partially funded by percentage of the net proceeds from Paula Deen Foods. The foundation will also be accepting public and private donations that can be made directly on The Bag Lady Foundation website at BagLadyFoundation.org.
