POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Students are now being moved back to West Chatham Middle School in Pooler after being evacuated Friday morning due to a suspicious package found at the school.

Officials say at around 7:53 a.m., a teacher found a suspicious looking package in the hallway of the school.

The school notified police who quickly responded and evacuated all students, who were moved to nearby West Chatham Elementary School as a precautionary measure while Campus Police and other agencies, including the Savannah-Chatham Metro Bomb Squad, investigated the situation.

Authorities say the package was a hoax. They say it was a package made to look like a bomb.

The package and investigation has been turned over to the FBI.

The school was thoroughly searched and deemed safe for all students to return around 11 a.m. The students will finish the remainder of the school day on the regular operating schedule. All roads surrounding the school have been reopened.
