LONG CO., GA (WTOC) -

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to a mobile home fire Saturday in Long County.

The Red Cross provided assistance to a family of four, including one adult and three children, who live in a mobile home located on Tibet Highway in Allenhurst.

The Long County Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire in a short time, but not before it had caused major damage to the home. No one was injured in the fire.

Authorities say the single father started cooking French fries on the stove for his three children and apparently fell asleep the couch. The smell of smoke from the kitchen and the smoke alarm woke him up.

The home owner did not have renter's insurance, according to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross provided the family with temporary shelter and food to assist with the family's long-term recovery.
