Man hit by car on E.G. Miles Parkway

A man is recovering after being hit by a car while trying to recover a bag out of the road Saturday night.

It happened on E.G. Miles Parkway and Miles Crossing around 9 p.m. Investigators say

Brian Pinkney, 44 of Hinesville, was traveling east when a bag filled with trash that was strapped to the top of his vehicle flew off and landed in the road.

Georgia State Patrol says as he was recovering the bag, he was struck by another motorist traveling east bound and was seriously injured.

Pinkney was flown by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah where he will need need surgery on one of his legs and has abrasions and his other leg which was fractured during the accident.  

Officials say when Pinkey was struck by the vehicle, he rolled onto the hood, smashed into the windshield and rolled over the top.

The driver of the other vehicle, Freddie Young, 30, was charged for driving on a suspended license.
