HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

On Tuesday, the Department of Defense announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Job M. Reigoux, 30, of Austin, Texas, died on June 1 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, of wounds he sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.

His sister says he was set to come home this month.

"They are fighting for us. That is the reason we can lie our heads down peacefully without having to worry while they are back there worried while they are sleeping," said Carmen Reigoux, sister of Staff Sgt. Reigoux.

Staff Sgt. Reigoux was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
