Andrea brings rain, wind gusts to South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Tropical Storm Andrea is speeding through South Carolina, bringing rain and wind gusts but causing little damage.

Derrec Becker with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division said the storm was near Walterboro at 6 a.m. Friday, moving to the northeast at nearly 30 mph.

Becker says the storm has been nothing more than a severe thunderstorm so far.

No injuries have been reported and there have been no reports of significant damage. Becker says some trees have been blown over.

South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. reported about 6,500 people without electric service in Charleston County.

Becker says emergency planners and first responders are getting the chance to test their hurricane procedures.

He urges people to take extra time getting to work and encourages them to monitor weather conditions.
