JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the 12-year-old boy who apparently drowned on Johns Island on Sunday.

The coroner's office said Adarius Jenkins appears to have drowned.  An autopsy will be held later Monday to confirm the cause of death.

Charleston County Sheriff's Major James Brady says rescue crews located the body about 13 feet under water around 8:15 p.m. after responding to the scene at 3549 Joe Wright Road, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Major Brady said the boy was in the water near a dock playing tag with two other children when they lost sight of him around 7:15 p.m.

Dive crews, boats, and helicopters were called to the scene.
