SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A sentencing hearing for Steven Broadus is scheduled for Tuesday in Chatham County.

Broadus hijacked a man's pickup truck back in July 2010, and when he came up on a police checkpoint in Thunderbolt, he took off in the other direction.

A short time later, Broadus crashed the truck and then shot a Savannah-Chatham Metro police officer. Fortunately, the bullet hit the officer's taser and he was not seriously injured.

The officer then returned fire, hitting Broadus in the chest.

Broadus was found guilty of several charges, including armed robbery, hijacking, aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing to elude and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Broadus is facing up to life in prison without parole.

WTOC will be in the courtroom and will bring you the latest on the case. Check WTOC.com and WTOC on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
