Crews respond to minor sewage spill on Al Henderson Dr.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

On June 11, city of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1 Al Henderson Drive. Officials say the spill was a result of grease blockage in a large residential area which caused a manhole to overflow to a storm drainage ditch. The total volume discharged was 2,900 gallons. According to State Environmental Protection Division guidelines, the amount of the spill is classified as a minor spill.

City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 9:02 a.m. and corrected it by 10 a.m. Crews cleared the blockage and the storm ditch was contained. The contaminated and drainage water was pumped from the ditch into the sewer collection system. Sampling was also done to verify the extent of the spill. Crews placed lime on the affected area and spill notifications are being put up at the Salt Creek Boat Ramp and at Lotts Island.

All of the agencies required by the State EPD were notified of the spill.
