EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

An oil spill has shut down a northbound lane of Ga. Highway 21 from the Chatham-Effingham line to mile post 3.54 in Rincon. The lane is closed for about 3.5 miles.

According to Rincon's fire chief, they think it was either used motor oil or hydraulic fluid that spilled. The lane is expected to be shut down for at least an hour and likely two hours, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. Georgia Department of Transportation says the reopening of the northbound travel lane is undertermined.

Crews are pouring dirt on the spill. Traffic is backed up to the Port Wentworth area.

Ga. DOT is advising motorists to use S.R. 30 to travel north in to Effingham County..
