EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A child porn suspect who was wanted by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office was arrested overnight in Virginia, according to the ECSO's David Ehsanipoor.

Edward Holmes, 52, is charged with possessing and distributing child pornography. Investigators had tracked him to an extended stay hotel off Dean Forest Road.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday executed a warrant at the Quail Run Lodge, where Holmes had been staying. He wasn't there. Investigators said they believed Holmes had headed back to Virginia in a car with that state's tags.

"The Effingham County Sheriff's Office has been looking for Edward Holmes since Wednesday after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at his residence in Chatham County, Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said." Warrants were issued for Holmes for sexual exploitation of a child after investigators discovered his computer which contained several explicit images and videos of children under the age of 10, Ehsanipoor said.

He said ECSO deputies began tracking Holmes and received information at about 1 a.m. Friday that he was in a Walmart parking lot in Montgomery County, VA.

ECSO deputies contacted Montgomery County deputies who made contact with Holmes and took him into custody.

Holmes is expected to have an extradition hearing within the next few days and will be transported back to Effingham County, Georgia to face his charge of sexual exploitation of a child.

More charges may be forthcoming in the case as it remains under investigation.
