SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Third ID solders celebrated the 238th birthday of the U.S. army, led by Third ID Commanding Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams.

WTOC's Sonny Dixon spoke with Abrams who is Kandahar, Afghanistan.

"I just finished our celebration here in Regional Command South - just as the sun was going down. Read our army's history, put on all the streamers - morale is high and everybody's doing very well," he said.

The general said the dog faced soldiers are performing extremely well all across Afghanistan, but he said they aren't the only ones.

"[I want to give] a special shout out to all of our families. They have endured a great deal - they've sacrificed a great deal. And they should be absolutely proud of their soldier - wherever they are and what they're doing, because they are making a huge difference here every single day.  And all of us look forward to getting back home to Coastal Georgia," Abrams said.

They discussed the excellent accomplishments of 3-7 CAV who have just returned this week, their unique role in the north and about what's happening where Abrams commands - in Regional Command South.

He shared some promising words about soldiers soon to come home.
