Hundreds of people came out to donate blood Friday to the American Red Cross during the fifth annual Paula Deen blood drive.
The drive ended at 5 p.m. Donors received a limited edition apron, a $40 gift card and famous Gooey Butter cakes.
People lined up at both the Lady and Sons and at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House. The American Red Cross said the Deens are huge supporters of blood drives - especially at this critical time of the year.
"During the summer months there is an increase in blood - because people are out on the roads. They're vacationing and people just get really busy and you never know what type of emergency there may be - so it is critical that people make their donation appointments and keep them," said an American Red Cross representative.
Those could not make it to the donation drive can donate any day of the week at the American Red Cross donation centers.
