PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) -

The YMCA of Beaufort County is offering a free Summer Food Program during its summer camps to ensure fewer kids and teens will go hungry this summer.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation and its site sponsor, Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services, the program will provide nutritious meals, snacks, and activities to keep kids' minds and bodies active.

The YMCA of Beaufort County will feed 480 children in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, which include the Wardle Family YMCA, Beaufort Elementary School, Whale Branch Elementary School, Hardeeville Elementary School, and Ridgeland Elementary School locations.

With more than 900 summer food program sites nationwide, the YMCA will strive to serve 4 million healthy meals and snacks to 100,000 kids this summer.

During the school year, the YMCA of Beaufort County will also serve healthy meals and snacks in its afterschool program to provide kids with nourishment and academic enrichment.

The summer program runs from June 10 through August 16 and is open to kids 18-years-old and under.

For registering information, contact the YMCA at 843-522-9622.
