Springfield police investigate apparent early morning shooting

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police told CBS 3 that they are investigating an early morning shooting that may have occurred in the Winchester Square area.

Crews responded to a shot-spotter activation at about 4 a.m. on Saturday in the area of the State Street and Eastern Avenue intersection.

Officers could not find a victim or a shell casing; however, a shooting victim was treated at Baystate Medical Center a little while later.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican said the victim said he was shot in the shoulder while with friends.

The incident remains under investigation.
