Man arrested in Lady's Island purse snatching

Posted: Updated:

A man has been arrested in connection with a purse snatching outside a church on Lady's Island.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said Quinton Timothy Blake, 19, of Lady's Island, stole the purse of a parishioner in the parking lot of Seaside Vineyard Church at 100 Sea Island Parkway.

An 18-year-old victim told deputies that she had walked from the church to a nearby gas station to buy a drink. When she was walking back to the church, the suspect went up to her and demanded her purse.

The suspect ripped the purse from the victim's shoulder and ran off, according to the BCSO.

Another parishioner ran after the suspect up to Geechie Rd, but wasn't able to catch up to him. A perimeter was established in the area and a BCSO K9 was brought in to help with the search.

The K9 located Blake in a wooded area off of Youmans Drive. He had the victim's credit cards in his pockets and had thrown the purse in the woods, according to the BCSO.

The victim was uninjured. Her stolen items were recovered and returned to her.

Blake was charged with one count of purse snatching. He was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he remains awaiting a bond hearing.
