Ridgeland police are investigating their second homicide in less than a month.
Police say the body of 20-year-old Shaquille Grant was found in a car parked behind the Days Inn hotel on E Main St. sometime Monday night.
"I'm numb. I'm hurt," said Shakira Grant, Shaquille's mother. "It's like a hole is in my heart."
Shaquille is Shakira's second child. She said he graduated from high school last year, and he was the kind of person that loved to make people laugh.
"A piece of my soul is gone," she said as tears ran down her face. "Losing a child, I don't wish that on anybody."
A Days Inn clerk said Shaquille Grant appeared to be dead before police were even called.
Police aren't saying if he died at the hotel, or how he died. They're waiting for autopsy results to come back.
This is all still fresh for Shakira Grant's friend, Tearwornia Woods. As Woods tries to comfort Shakira Grant, she can't help but think about her own son, Darius Woods, who was killed on May 23.
Woods said she wants answers, and she's demanding swift action from police.
"This does not make any sense, somebody has to do something out here because we have to find out who is out here murdering our children," said Woods. "I don't know what they are doing, but something has to be done. I'm hurting. This family is hurting. A lot of families are hurting."
