BCSO: Man fatally struck on Hwy 21 by SCHP cruiser

SEABROOK, SC (WTOC) -

U.S. Hwy 21 southbound in Beaufort County was closed for more than two hours Wednesday morning at Martin Lane due to a fatal wreck. 

The man was walking down Highway 21 at about 4:50 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a South Carolina Highway Patrol car, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. 

Beaufort police and the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the wreck that forced the southbound lanes of Hwy 21 in Seabrook to close at about 5 a.m. The road reopened to traffic at 7:30 a.m.

The Beufort County coroner said the body has been taken to the Medical Univeristy of South Carolina for an autopsy.

The names of the deputy driving the car and the victim have not yet been released. An investigation continues into the wreck.
