Multi-vehicle wreck slows traffic on Talmadge Bridge

JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

Rescue crews responded to a multi-car crash on the South Carolina side of the Talmadge Bridge, heading into South Carolina early Wednesday. 

Several vehicles crashed on Hwy 17 in Jasper County at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. At least three eople are being treated for injuries, maybe more. Levy firefighters, Southside firefighters and Jasper County firefighters responded. 

During the crash, a truck ended up running off the road and bursting into flames.

Hwy 17 had to be shut down for a little over an hour. The road is back open but traffic is backed up and delays can be expected.

The wreck is under investigation.

Alternate routes into Savannah are the Houlihan Bridge and Interstate 95.

    After years of an almost complete moratorium, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council voted 12 to 1 Monday to open a limited 2017 red snapper fishing season in the South Atlantic. If approved by NOAA Fisheries, the season will likely begin in mid-to late October.
