1 charged, 1 critical after shootings at Martha, Jergensen streets

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have charged a shooting suspect who in turn was shot by an off-duty Savannah State University police officer Thursday afternoon. The shootings occurred about 4:15 p.m.

Police arrested Tyrone Williams, 20, of a Lynah Street address, after he was treated for non-life threatening wounds at Memorial University Medical Center following the shooting at Jergensen and Martha streets off Skidaway Road.

Williams was shot by SSU Police Lt. Ray Hall, who reacted to a shooting in which Williams had shot Christopher Washington, 21, of the 2200 block of Jergensen Street. Washington is currently being treated for potentially life threatening wounds at Memorial.

Officers with SCMPD, Thunderbolt Police Department, and SSU responded to the scene. SCMPD violent crimes detectives will continue to investigate the shootings.
