Man sought in armed robbery attempt in Statesboro

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Statesboro police are looking for a suspect in connection with an attempted armed robbery and assault that occurred Thursday night.

It occurred at about 11 p.m. June 20. Statesboro police said Jimmy Coleman was outside of his home in his vehicle when he was approached by a man with a handgun. 

The suspect made an ambiguous demand and hit Coleman in the face with the handgun, according to police.  Coleman and the suspect saw a Statesboro police patrol car approaching and the offender ran off.

Coleman's girlfriend called police. Officer Louis Parker and Det. Kevin Weatherly responded.  Police said the victim's injuries were superficial and he did not request medical services.

The suspect is described as a black male who is 5'10" tall with a thin build, dreadlocks, a goatee. He was wearing black clothing at the time of the robbery.
