Xylophone goes up at Forsyth Park

Forsyth Park gets a xylophone. Forsyth Park gets a xylophone.

The city of Savannah has installed a permanent xylophone at Forsyth Park on the west side of the band shell.

The musical instrument, which is played using your hands, is part of the city's effort to provide young people to cultural and recreational experiences, according to the city. They hope the xylophone will encourage folks of all ages to do just that.

"I think this will be an added feature to the park. I think once everybody begins to realize that they can use it to make all kinds of music it will be a big draw," said Barry Baker, director of the Park and Recreation Services.

It was paid for with a Cities of Service Grant awarded from the Bloomberg Foundation, according to the city's website.

The city plans to add additional xylophones to more parks in the future. They have yet to decide where the next one will go.
