Firefighters testing new ways to put out flames

Firefighters learning a new way to knock down flames.

This fire set on purpose not by an arsonist but by the fire department. It was a training Garden City and Southside Fire held at the Old Dean Forest Nursery. The nursery donated the site to the city for the fire training. On Saturday they were trying out new firefighting techniques.

"It's a fan at the point of entry blowing back into the house instead of blowing smoke out the house, this is putting pressure back in the house," said Chief James Crosby.

Firefighters say nowadays blazes break out quickly. Furniture made from plastic and styrofoam can cause a whole room to be enflamed within four minutes.
