Wife charged as accessory in stolen funds case

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

As part of an on-going investigation, the Bluffton Police Department arrested Amanda June Mitchell-Grooms, 36, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for accessory before the fact to breach of trust >$10,000 and accessory after the fact to breach of trust>$10,000.

Mitchell-Grooms has been charged with aiding her husband, William Grooms, who has been charged with breach of trust>$10,000 for funds taken from the Friends of Bluffton Dog Parks between June 2012 and June 2013. According to authorities, Mitchell-Grooms was the treasurer for the group during the time funds were removed.

Police say accessory before the fact is a felony and carries the same penalty as the principal offense, breach of trust >$10,000, which carries up to a 10 year sentence. Accessory after the fact is a felony and carries up to a five year sentence, according to police.
