The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a bank robbery that occurred just after 12 p.m. on the island's south end.
Deputies and Sea Pines Plantation security officers responded to First Federal Bank at 79 Lighthouse Rd. on a report of an armed robbery.
A man walked into the bank telling employees he had an explosive device and demanded money, according to the BCSO. He received an undisclosed amount of money and took off. No one was injured and no customers were in the bank at the time.
The suspect is described as a white male with gray hair in his early 60s. He's about 5'11" to 6' 00" tall and weighs 200 lbs. He was wearing a blue and white striped polo shirt and khaki shorts.
Drivers may hit delays both the Greenwood and Ocean gates of the plantation as incoming and outgoing traffic is being closely monitored during the search for the suspect.
A search has concluded, and the suspect remains at large, according to the BCSO.
The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees a suspicious person or activity should call 911 immediately.
