HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

A Hilton Head Island man was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the robbery of a bank on island's south end.

Douglas Albert Haff, 58, of Hilton Head, was arrested on one count of entering a bank with intent to steal, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

He's accused of robbing the First Federal Bank at 79 Lighthouse Rd. Deputies pulled his car over in the area of 175 Greenwood Dr. on Sea Pines.

Investigators had received several tips that the driver of the light-colored Saturn sedan matched the description of the bank robbery suspect, according to the BCSO. Haff was found to have several open containers of beer in his car and was found  to be driving under the influence, according to the BCSO.

He was arrested on charges of DUI and open container.

Deputies searched the car and recovered evidence that was positively identified from the bank robbery, according to the BCSO.

Haff was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he will remain awaiting bond hearings.

An investigation into the robbery continues.
