HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

A soldier and his family are without a home after a massive house fire in Hinesville saturday evening.

Hinesville Fire Department responded to call on the 600 block of South Main Street shortly before 6 p.m.

Officials say there was no one at the home at the time of the blaze. They are not sure what caused the fire yet.

"Right now there's no idea. First firefighters on the scene said there was heavy smoke coming from the front of the structure, and they tried to make entry from the front of the building but they couldn't so they went around the back. Where it actually started hasn't been determined yet." said Cpt. Earnest Mcduffie, Hinesville Fire Marshal.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

If you would like to help the family you can contact the 396th Transportation Company at 912-767-4108.
