Gas tax rate hike goes into effect

ATLANTA (WTOC) -

Gas prices are going up in Georgia this week.

The state is one of eight to raise their gas tax by 10 cents a gallon, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. The increase went into effect Monday.

The federal gas tax has remained the same since 1993 at 18 cents a gallon State and federal gas taxes are mainly used for road building and other transportation infrastructure projects.
