RMV customers warned about mimic websites

MassDOT's Registrar of Motor Vehicles Rachel Kaprielian is urging customers to make sure they are on the RMV's official branch site, massrmv.com, when doing business.

According to RMV officials, customers have been misled by deceptive and mimic RMV websites when they use online search engines.  Officials also suggest avoiding sites that use or reference the Department of Motor Vehicles or the DMV as the word, department and the abbreviation DMV don't exist in Massachusetts.

"Business is brisk during the summer months at our RMV branches across the Commonwealth," Registrar Kaprielian in a statement. "To avoid waiting in line, we encourage customers to try their transactions online, but only by accessing our official site website, MassRMV.com."

RMV has provided the following tips to customers to ensure they are accessing the official site:

  • Check for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Seal
  • Look for links to MassDOT; the RMV is one of MassDOT's Divisions
  •  Make sure you can find RMV's Customer Service number 857-DOT-8000/857-368-8000
  • Massachusetts uses the term Registry and ‘RMV'; log-off if the site references the ‘DMV'
  • At MassRMV.com you will never be charged to check your license, registration or title status.
  • At MassRMV.com you will never be charged to access Registry forms and information.
  • At MassRMV.com you will never be charged to change your address.
