ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A 58 year-old woman is recovering tonight after being injured in a crash at a busy Albany intersection this morning.

Police said 23 year-old Mandela Bateman was driving north on Westover Boulevard in a black 2003 Nissan Altima and was passing through a yellow light at the intersection of Meredyth Drive around 10 o'clock this morning.

They said that's when Aletha Clyde, who was driving the other direction in a red 2002 Ford Escape, turned in front of her.

"The cars can be fixed and replaced.  The people can't be as easily fixed and replaced.  So I just wish people would try to slow down and pay attention to try to prevent accidents from occurring," said Ptl. Off. Christopher Richardson, Albany Police Department.

Richardson said Bateman could have been traveling over 40-miles-per-hour when the cars collided.  He said Clyde was cited for failure to yield and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.  Bateman was not injured.

He also says the accident could have been worse and urges motorists to stay safe behind the wheel.
