THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A Thomasville man is in jail accused of robbing a young woman in a convenience store, before lying to the police officers.

Police say an officer was patrolling near an L & G food mart early Thursday morning when she was approached by 18-year old Ariyan Marshall.

Marshall told police 35-year old Demetrius Howard told her to give him all of her money in the food mart.

Officers quickly caught up with Howard, but police say he lied to them about his name, age and other personal information.

"You try to defraud your ID, hinder the investigation by giving false information such as a name and you could end up being criminally charged," said Police Chief Ellis Jackson.

Howard remains in the Thomas County Jail charged with robbery and giving false information.
