4th of July boosts business on HHI

Posted: Updated:

Tourist season is in full swing on Hilton Head Island, which means money for many of the shops on the island.

For new business owners Ben and Ali Hansen, it's a perfect scenario.

"It's just been great. Everyone's got that nice southern hospitality down here," said Ali Hansen.

Ben and Ali own Bennalie's Sandal and Hat Shop. The store opened just in time for the Fourth.

"We were able to open our doors about noon yesterday, and we had an awesome response."

Bennalie's is not the only business whose cash registers are ringing this week.

"We've been very busy," said Marcia Day, the manger of Francesca's Collection. "It's been crazy. we had a great Fourth of July weekend."

With its quaint boutique feel and affordable prices, Day said Francesca's is a hit with tourists, especially this year.

"We sell jewelry, wall art, and apparel. And we're selling all of it," said Day.

WTOC asked the store owners if this year is busier than last year's Fourth of July four-day holiday weekend.

"It's going great, lots of tourists here, but I think last year was busier than this year," said Stefka Tonkova, an employee at the Tee Hut. "We have a lot of tourists, but last year more buyers."

But if you ask the folks at Francesca's Collection, Caroline's Boutique, and the owners of Bennalie's Sandal and Hat Shop, they would all say business is booming.
