Woman charged in deadly downtown connector wreck made court appearance

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A woman charged in a fatal wreck that shut down lanes of the downtown connector made her first court appearance on Monday.

Sandra Cottles was charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to maintain a lane, according to Atlanta police.

Cottles was granted $10K bond and a $1K signature bond, according to the Fulton County Police.

The accident happened just after 3:00 p.m. on July 6.

The vehicle Cottles, 58, was driving struck the victims' car on the passenger side rear bumper, according to investigators.

The victims were traveling in the HOV lane when they were hit. Their car went into a spin before it flipped, ejecting two people.

The driver was killed. The passengers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. They are listed in stable condition.

Cottles remained at the scene. She was not injured. She was taken to Fulton County Jail.

The identity of the driver killed in the other car has not been released, pending notification of kin.
