MIDWAY, GA (WTOC) -

Summer Slam still went on as planned in Midway, on Sunday, despite the death of its' creator Ernie Walthour.

Hundreds of folks gathered at Miller Park for the event. Though spirits were low they all say they were there to remember Walthour and honor his legacy as their hometown hero.

Walthour was shot to death last Monday. His sister tells us the event showed her and her family just how many people loved her brother.

"Hopefully we can find out who did this to him, but I just want to thank everybody for coming out today, because as you can see he's loved," said Theresa Walthour-Languard.

Police are still investigating Walthour's death. For any one with information about this case you are asked to contact the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, their telephone number is (912) 876-2131.
