VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) -

Vidalia police identified the woman found at the bottom of a city swimming pool as a young woman reported missing by family members the night before.

Police chief Frank Waits tells WTOC that family members reported Kaywanna Jeannita Wells, 30, missing early Sunday evening. Officers were looking for information on her disappearance when staff at the city's Bay Street pool discovered a body in the water when they opened the pool Monday morning.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab will conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death. Special Agent in Charge Todd Lowery said the preliminary investigation showed no apparent wounds or injuries. GBI agents canvassed the pool and adjacent park for any signs of how Wells got inside the six foot tall chain link fence or gates.

Chief Waits said GBI will handle the case because Wells is the relative of a city employee and the pool is on city property.
