HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

K-9 units from across the region gathered at Sanford Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville Monday night to say goodbye to beloved police K-9 Brad. Hinesville police say Brad shattered his leg two weeks ago and had to be put down. They also believe he might have had cancer.

"I bailed him out of the car, I knew he would come to me. I knew he would be there no matter what. I know he is a dog but he was truly my friend and my partner," said Tony Durham, special patrol officer, K-9 unit.

Brad's last big case was tracking the suspect involved in a soldier's shooting death in Hinesville last month. Last year, a drunk driver rammed his handler's police car from behind and he was severely injured.
