MCINTOSH CO., GA (WTOC) -

A high speed pursuit through three counties ended with the suspect airlifted to the hospital.

Deputies with the McIntosh County Sheriff's Office were on the lookout for a reckless driver Monday night. One deputy spotted the vehicle in question at the intersection of State Route 25 and State Route 99 and tried to pull them over after running a red light. The suspect then fled the traffic stop and took off up State Route 25.

The chase continued through McIntosh, Liberty and Bryan counties. Authorities struggled initially to stop him after they unsuccessfully spiked the car twice.

Then on Hwy 17 in Richmond Hill just off of Daniel Siding Road, they were able to pull a pit maneuver that resulted in the driver coming to crash-stop and having to be airlifted to the hospital with injuries. There is no word on his condition at this time.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating and says that alcohol may have been involved.
