First Brigade Combat Team officially back from Afghanistan

Wednesday marked another big step in the return of the Third Infantry Division from Afghanistan.

It was the official return of one of four Fort Stewart Brigades, the First Armor Brigade Combat Team, also known as the Raider Brigade.

Families greeted 107 soldiers after a months-long absence. The brigade represents about a quarter of Fort Stewart Soldiers, according to Raider Public Affairs.

"It's been a long nine months, and I'm looking forward to living again," Spc. Doug Marsh said, standing surrounded by his family on Conttrell Field

Right now, less than a fifth of the Third ID remains overseas.

The Raider flag was returned to Fort Stewart during Wednesday's welcome-home ceremony.

"When I came back as brigade commander, we bring the colors back with us," Brigade Commander Col. James Crider said. "And that represents the moment when the whole unit is back.
