A Savannah man who has been wanted since June 2010 on drug charges was captured by U.S. Marshals on Wednesday.

Joshua Emanuel Varner, 34, was wanted for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute controlled substances and multiple other charges was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Atlanta Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Varner was indicted in a major drug conspiracy case by the DEA in June 2010. He was one of 21 defendants in the case.

All of the other defendants have been prosecuted and Varner was still at large, according to the U.S. Marshals Office.

The U.S. Marshals Offices in Savannah and Atlanta conducted an extensive investigation over three years to locate Varner. Acting on information generated by the Atlanta U.S. Marshals, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the DEA, authorities were led to an address in Atlanta, where they found Varner and arrested him, according to the US Marshals Offices.

Authorities said three years on the run came to an end for a dangerous fugitive. The U.S. Marshals Service says cases like this re-enforce their motto: "You can run, but you can't hide."
