The first pitch for a world series competition will be thrown in Bluffton before the month is over.
The 2013 World Series for the Dixie Youth Traditional Ponytails will be played at the Oscar J. Frazier Park. Opening ceremonies start July 26. The first pitch will be tossed on July 27.
The tournament is expected to last through July 31.
"We are honored to have been selected again to host such a large athletic event. The last World Series event hosted in Beaufort County introduced thousands of new visitors to the Lowcountry and was a boost to our local economy," said Parks and Leisure Services Director Scott Marshall said in a statement.
More than 200 volunteers are needed in addition to the Beaufort PALS and grounds staff for this event to run smoothly.
The Buckwalter Recreation Center will be closed July 26 due to the competition. The center will only be open from noon to 6 p.m. July 29 through Aug. 2.
