Bulloch students get creative at Camp Invention

The halls of Langston Chapel Elementary were noisier than the average summer day. Lines of students went from class room to class room and did cheers along the way.

In one classroom, a group used Styrofoam, toothpicks and a motor to make robots. In another, teams built slingshots with rulers and duct tape and took aim at empty boxes. All the activities use paper, plastic, and other recyclable materials. But it covers many other topics as well.

"Part of the goal is to, in a fun camp atmosphere, get the kids learning about science, math, engineering and give them hands-on ways to learn," said Dr. Karen Doty, LCES principal.

The camp, one of two this summer, is part of a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The grant also provides some after school instruction programs during the school year.
