BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) -

People who live along the Ogeechee River near Dasher's Landing in Bryan County are preparing for even higher flood levels.

James Southerland has only lived in the area for a few months, but he can already see the difference in the river's levels.

The Ogeechee River is already at flood stage, Friday measuring just below 12 and a half feet. With the river expect to rise even more, Southerland's son is getting the family boat ready in case transportation becomes an issue.

This is the second time in the last six months that the Ogeechee River has reached flood stage and according to the Bryan County Emergency Services Director, the worst of it is not over yet.

"It starts flooding around 9 foot. In a couple of days, by Tuesday, it's supposed to be topping out at about 13'7"," said Freddy Howell, Bryan County Emergency Services director.

On Friday, Bryan County Emergency Services is warning people, like Southerland, the area could get dangerous.

"We're looking to see how high it's risen, and we're looking to see what the homes look like and warning the people who live there that you may want to lock your doors and find another place to live until the water recedes," said Howell.
