Parents gathered Monday night to learn about how long a construction project at Heard Elementary will take. There are two phases of construction that will expand the school and bring a much needed update. Phase one starts later this month when the portable classrooms outside will be removed. They will be replaced with an additional wing that will provide more room and will be connected to the main building.
"We have over 18 classrooms that are in portables. So, Heard was one of the schools that was designated in the ESPLOST to get this wing built to help the overcrowding in our school," said Sylvia Wallis, principal, Heard Elementary School.
Phase two of the project at Heard will be a renovation of the cafeteria and the interior of the school. All of the money for construction is coming from ESPLOST.
