Search-and-recovery efforts to continue on Hunting Island

Posted: Updated:
HUNTING ISLAND, SC -

Authorities will continue to search Tuesday for a 17-year-old boy that went missing off Hunting Island.

A family was swimming Sunday afternoon when they got caught in a rip current. Thanks to a teenage boy, one of the family members made it back to shore. However, her two cousins and uncle did not.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, the body of a teen was recovered. The family told WTOC that the body is that of 16-year-old Nathan Mok.

Then on Monday morning, the body of 38-year-old Tiem Mok, Nathan Mok's father, was discovered in a search-and-recovery effort off of Hunting Island.

No foul play is suspected in the incident, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. Autopsies of the recovered victims are pending at MUSC. The Beaufort County coroner did pronounce all three swimmers dead even though rescue crews have not yet recovered the body of the 17-year old male cousin.

Family members tell WTOC that the swimmers still missing is their teenage cousin from Philadelphia. They have asked that the boy's name not be released until he is found.

We will continue to follow the search-and-recovery efforts on Hunting Island. Check WTOC.com and WTOC on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
